Christmas at Red Mountain Grace: When Comfort Finds Families in Crisis
For families walking through medical crisis, the holidays can feel especially heavy.
Hospital hallways don’t pause for Christmas. Uncertainty doesn’t take a break. And for many of the guests we serve at Red Mountain Grace, the season that is meant to feel joyful can instead feel lonely, overwhelming, and unfamiliar.
That’s where community steps in.
The Monday night before Christmas, Red Mountain Grace volunteers gathered together with a shared purpose: to bring Christmas to the families staying in our apartments. Cars were loaded with carefully prepared gifts, handmade cards, and small reminders that these families are not alone. What followed was one of those moments that reminds us why this work matters—full of joy, energy, and love in motion.
At Red Mountain Grace, we believe hospitality is more than providing a place to stay. It’s about creating a sense of peace and dignity during one of life’s most vulnerable seasons. Especially at Christmas.
This year, even the children of our RMG staff joined in the effort. With markers, crayons, and thoughtful care, they created handmade cards to be tucked into each gift. Simple messages. Bright drawings. Personal touches that said, someone thought about you.
One of our guests, Lori, shared what this season meant to her while staying at Red Mountain Grace:
“The hospital life can cause some anxiety. I know this tree will make me smile and feel so much joy.”
That single sentence captures the heart of our mission. In the midst of medical uncertainty, a decorated tree, a gift, or a handwritten card can become a moment of relief—something familiar, comforting, and grounding.
Our volunteers feel this deeply, too. One shared:
“It’s really so humbling to be able to put a tree up and decorate it… all the while praying that it will offer comfort and a bit of joy for these guests.”
That prayer is woven into every detail of what we do. From the volunteers who give their time, to the donors who make these moments possible, to the families who allow us into their story—this is what it looks like when compassion takes action.
Because when families stay at Red Mountain Grace, they’re not just receiving housing. They’re receiving rest. Normalcy. A reminder that even in the hardest seasons, joy can still find them.
Christmas at Red Mountain Grace is not about perfection or presentation. It’s about presence. It’s about meeting families where they are and walking alongside them with grace, generosity, and hope.
And because of this community, comfort doesn’t stop at the hospital doors—it follows families home.
