Two Survivors, One Mission: Anita and Linda

Anita and Linda share a special bond, one rooted in their journeys through breast cancer and strengthened through their service as apartment adopters with Red Mountain Grace. Both survivors, they’ve turned their experiences into an opportunity to give back, bringing comfort and support to families facing their own challenges during long-term medical stays.

Anita, diagnosed in 2021, recalls the lessons in patience and trust she learned through her journey. “There were so many unknowns,” she shared. “But I came out on the other side with a deeper faith and a greater appreciation for the small things.” Linda, whose diagnosis came in 2015, echoes the sentiment. “God doesn’t waste anything. The hard things draw us closer to Him,” she said.

Their connection to Red Mountain Grace began when Linda came across the organization through a family’s CaringBridge page. Deeply moved by the mission, she introduced Anita to the nonprofit, and the two decided to adopt an apartment together. “The opportunity to serve families and provide a little bit of comfort during a difficult time—it just felt right,” said Linda.

The heart of Anita and Linda’s service was especially evident during a caroling night organized for Brad Martin and his family, who were guests of Red Mountain Grace. As Brad’s family prepared for him to enter Heaven, the RMG community came together to create a meaningful final moment for them. The Martins had stayed in the apartment adopted by Anita and Linda, making the experience even more personal. “We were a bit nervous at first—neither of us are known for our singing voices—but it turned into something truly special,” Anita recalled. “Being there, sharing that moment with Brad and his family, it reminded us of the real impact this ministry has. We weren’t just apartment adopters; we were part of something much bigger, standing with them as friends.”

For both Anita and Linda, Red Mountain Grace has given them a unique way to connect with others and offer the same support they once received. “We may have been brought together through cancer, but it’s the work we’re doing now with Red Mountain Grace that’s deepened our friendship and our faith,” Anita shared. “This ministry is such a blessing—not only to the families we serve but to us as well.”

Their story, rooted in resilience and compassion, is a reminder of the power of community and the impact of small acts of service. Through their work as apartment adopters, Anita and Linda continue to support families in need, embodying the spirit of Red Mountain Grace and the grace that carried them through their own journeys.
