Through Every Trial: Ira and Lori
Sometimes, love is defined not just by moments of joy, but by the quiet strength that shows up through the hardest days. Lori and Ira have faced unimaginable challenges together, with a journey that has spanned years of hardship. Despite the immense difficulty of their circumstances, they continue to move forward with love, faith, and perseverance.
Lori and Ira are returning guests at Red Mountain Grace. They first stayed with us in the spring of 2023 when Ira faced a critical surgery for a rare and aggressive cancer. The road they’ve traveled since then has been long, and unfortunately, their journey is far from over. Ira, a retired firefighter and pastor, was diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma in 2022. What began as a struggle with one tumor now includes another that has developed in his left atrium—a growth that is inoperable. His prognosis is terminal but the doctors are trying everything they can to prolong his life.
Lori remains a faithful, loving presence by Ira’s side. Their devotion to each other is clear in the quiet moments—like when Ira expressed his gratitude for Lori’s comfort, knowing she has a place to rest at the end of each long day at the hospital.
When Lori and her daughter arrived at their apartment a couple of weeks ago, they were immediately grateful for the space, offering a brief respite from the stress and exhaustion of the hospital. The apartment, a temporary home, provides more than just a place to sleep—it gives them a sense of stability and peace, knowing that they are close to the care Ira needs.
Lori is so thankful for the support, and for the chance to focus on being present with Ira rather than worrying about logistics. It’s in these small moments of quiet gratitude that we see the true weight of their love and devotion.
As they continue their journey through these challenging days, we ask you to hold Lori and Ira in your hearts. Pray for comfort, healing, and strength as they navigate the unknown and cherish the time they have together.
