Red Mountain Grace Welcomes New Executive Director, Tammy Johnson

Johnson brings with her more than a decade of nonprofit leadership experience and a proven record of transformative growth. Most recently, she served as CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Cleveland, Tennessee, where she led teams through organizational expansion and earned multiple statewide honors, including Affiliate, Leader, ReStore, and Trailblazer of the Year from Habitat for Humanity of Tennessee.

Known for her people-first approach, operational strength, and ability to align mission, vision, and values, Johnson steps into this role with both bold ideas and a deep commitment to the families Red Mountain Grace serves.

“In seasons of medical crisis, families need more than a place to stay—they need compassion, care, and community,” Johnson shared. “At Red Mountain Grace, healing begins with hospitality. I’m honored to carry forward this mission and build on the incredible foundation already in place.”

Building on a Strong Foundation

Since its founding, Red Mountain Grace has served more than 1,000 families traveling to Birmingham for medical treatment, providing safe, fully-furnished apartments that feel like home. As Birmingham hospitals continue to expand and patients travel from across the region for life-saving care, the demand for supportive housing grows.

Under Johnson’s leadership, the organization plans to:

  • Expand its reach to serve more families in need.
  • Grow community partnerships with hospitals, churches, and local organizations.
  • Invest in long-term sustainability to ensure future generations have access to safe and compassionate housing during times of hardship.

Board President Chad Pilcher expressed his excitement:

“Our goal is to serve more families, more deeply. Tammy’s track record of thoughtful leadership and innovation will help us steward our mission and grow with purpose.”

Looking Ahead

Red Mountain Grace’s mission has always been fueled by generous donors, faithful volunteers, and dedicated community partners who believe in the power of home during the hardest seasons of life. With Johnson at the helm, the organization is poised to continue this legacy of hospitality, dignity, and grace.
